…hurriedly Googles “mandalas” after having just looked up “crown chakra”…

Agreed! What a great word – mandala – need to add that to my lexicon. How could I have gone this far without a personal mandala??? 🙂

If you call them mandalas instead of icons you’ll sound more spiritual and sophisticated. 🙂

I’m laughing so hard right now 🙂 That was very funny, Mike!

I think your design is good – should just be red, maybe.
I think Mark’s color is cool – seems to stand out more than some – but the design isn’t there…
kohdude lucked out with his, too. Navy tornado.
Ed’s got a green Othello board that’s good.

Have I mentioned I’m 41 years old? Probably couldn’t tell from reading my icon fanboy posts 🙂

Hey I want a cooler one too! It’s like you got the kyara and Mark and I are stuck with the charcoal punks. 🙂

So if someone (cough cough Mark cough cough) wanted a cooler one, you couldn’t be bribed to assign a better one. Too bad – imagine holding that kind of power! 🙂

I would think since after I changed it back we did all get the same ones again that it may assigned them randomly and sequentially. I honestly have no idea how it works, it’s a matter of me clicking buttons that turn avatars on and then one that sets the type!

Mike – I don’t wanna sound too excited, but I’m so glad you brought the original icons back – mine is so freakin’ cool! Hmmm, maybe my first tattoo 🙂 Ibn’s is pretty cool – reminds me of a Moroccan tile.

I know you said they are random, though each of us seem to get the same one consistently. Maybe it’s based on some type of hash value of the characters in our names??? It will be interesting to see if a new poster here has the same name as one of us and if they get the same icon.

I did change the site back to the original identicons with the snowflake like patterns. Unfortunately it means both Mark and I got the short end of the deal, while Steve’s looks like a crown chakra, but I’d have to agree these fit the site better than the weird creature ones. 🙂

Thanks so much Lori, appreciate the comments!

The new page looks great! Longish-time lurker, first-time poster here. Just wanted to congratulate you on the new digs and thank you for all the incense reviews and information – it’s been a lot of help. I read about it here, then I go shopping at Essence of the Ages (Beth’s a gem). Wish my nose were as educated as yours, but I’ve still managed to fall in love with a few things. Keep up the excellent work!

Good question Steve, wish I could assist.

Is there a cross-contamination problem with storing vials of essential oils (aromatherapy/diffuser oils – lavender, bergamot, patchouli, etc.) in the same cabinet as our incense? These oils, in glass vials, are not reeking but do ultimately leave a scent trace wherever I store them. Can japanese incense absorb this odor and become contaminated? I’m thinking this is a pretty likely concern. Thoughts or experience, anyone?

Sorry for not knowing a better place to post this question…

Steve, I’m not sure what happened. I played with the settings and then returned them to the way they were and they never came back.

Mike – I removed all my RSS feeds to your blog and re-subscribed, which seems to have worked!

Just noticed the cool icons are gone from our posts – hmmm. I had already formed an attachment with my special character, but I guess if it’s actually random, I may have to let it go 😦

Hi all, thanks for the comments. The little icons are randomly computer generated, they’re a new WordPress addition. The design of the site is also a WordPress template, but it seems to fit really well hear and the picture captures the plant in motion theme that fits nicely with incense. And thanks a lot for the catch ibn, now fixed! Not sure what’s up with the RSS feed, will look into it, there’s still a few things left I need to accomplish here.

good luck with the new site Mike. When you wrote in your latest entry: “This is the new site for the insence resource part of Mike’s Prattle blog” i’m sure you mean incense, not insence … or perhaps you meant in-sense !

I have my own cool icon! Hmmm – maybe Mike gave me a Kanji character for “he who rambles” 🙂

And this is just my own experiment – noticed I got the same cool icon both times I posted a comment here and want to see if I get it again (i.e. I have my own cool icon!) or if it’s random…and the answer is……

The work you’ve done on the site aesthetics are truly appreciated, Mike – the green, parchment and gold tones are really soothing and luxurious. On a technical note, I re-subscribed to entries and comments for ORS, but those feeds don’t appear to be working for me. Any hints? Is anyone else having trouble subscribing to/receiving auto-feeds of new entries and comments here?

Thanks Steve. That probably would have been a good idea, had I not totally gone for this name! – Mike

Made it here, Mike! Great name and good luck continuing to refine and push forward with the incense insights. Hmmmmm – IncenseInsights sounds catchy – maybe you should have given us a chance with a name-Mike’s-blog contest 🙂 InTheKnowKoh, IncenseSense, PerfectTen(Pyo)…
