Thanks for the report Claire. It’s funny, with Kai un Koh I get almost cigar-like tones out of it at least in the same way so many cigars are described as being like leather or something. It strikes me as something of a perfect blend of aloes, sandal, clove and cinnamon. I notice the clove a lot more during certain burns. Anyway I hope you grow to it like I did, there are times I can’t get enough of it. and hey it’s a Baieido, so the learning curve is almost a given.

Believe it or not they arrived yesterday! I’ve only done a quick test so far.

The Kai un Koh is pretty unusual, it’s not at all like any other incense I’ve tried to date. When I opened the box there was such a strong smell of curry. On the second opening of the box, I could still smell the curry but also a very salty celery smell. (You must be thinking I’ve gone completely loopy with these descriptions). Burning it, I’m still not sure what to think, like whether I like it or not. It’s definitely salty and a bit medicinal. I think I’m going to have to sit down with this one a few times to get a better feel for it.

The Fig smells absolutely fantastic in the packet. The burning aroma is pretty true to the smell in the packet as well. I like it a lot. It is fruity but not in the typical citrus or berry way. It’s also incredibly sweet and this may prove to be a downfall as it could er on the sickly sweet side.

I’ll write full reviews once the incenses and I have become better acquainted with each other.

Hope you like the Kai Un Koh as much as I do, I’ve got what probably amounts to a lifetime stock now. 🙂 I’m about to do another EdM article. I’ve not tried the fig but they seem to do a good job with just about everything, so I can imagine you won’t be too disappointed.

Just spotted this in time with only 10 minutes to go!

I have ordered some Baieido Kai un koh for £5.90 (after 10% discount) which seems a great price at the moment. I also threw some Encens du Monde Mediterranean Fig (Ichijiku) in the basket – I am not expecting as much from this given the lower price (£3.42 after 10% discount) but given my love of figs, I thought it would be fun to try. I’ll report my observations back here in due course.

Thanks ever so much for flagging this discount code up.
