Incense Trading

This page will act as a “clearing house” for unwanted incenses. First the history….

In sampling and buying incense it’s inevitable that one will end up with boxes of incense that one doesn’t like, especially if you’re not buying samplers. It’s occured to us that there should be a way of unloading these unwanted incenses, so as a matter of experiment I spent a good month or two piling incenses I didn’t want and mailing them to friends of the site. The idea would be that these friends would keep any incenses they liked, add more incenses that they didn’t like from their own collection and send the package on to the next person.

This should work OK, but having no idea what kind of response an idea like this will get, it’s possible to start more than one “chain” if necessary. So I’d like to encourage people to not only be part of the chain if they’re interested by posting in the comments, but also to hear of any ideas about how things should work. More from me in the comments…

Dear, fellow incense enthusiasts I have some incense I’m looking to trade. I have a posting on the incense traders wikidot as well, under the same username.

[edited. Hi, as a courtesy I have left your reference to the incense traders wikidot in your post so people who are interested can go there to see what you’re offering, but the original purpose of this page was a long-dead trading circle and not to facilitate other trades, as it’s not something this site was built for. Good luck. – Mike]

[edited] Hi Adam, sorry but allowing one of these posts mean I have to allow them all. But I will add to this that there is an Incense Traders Forum and there looks to be at least one good deal you can get in on. I believe the link is on the left. – Mike

Does anyone know if the original incense trading wikidot page is still active? I also wanted to know, Mike, would it be ok to post the address for lesley’s new incense trading forum?

    • Mike said,

Hi Ivy, I think it’s dead. As soon as Lesley’s new forum is active she should e-mail me and I’ll promote it.

Thanks Mike, I’ll email her. I think its pretty much ready from what i saw, but I’ll let her get in touch with you. Hopefully we’ll get some good traffic. I’m looking forward to making some trades.

I added my lists of Incense Offered and Incense Wanted to the incense trading wiki! I will continue to add to it as my trials and errors lead to a more extensive offering for trade.

My member name is EagleSpirit. Looking forward to trading!

Jen, what BOSEN coils/sticks? I love BOSEN and would be happy to make a trade. Email me at princessschala@gmail.com if you’re interested still.

I don’t know if this is the right place to post this (I can’t find the wiki), but I have 4 boxes of Mother’s India Nag Champa that I want to find a good home for. Each box is missing one stick only. I have Moksha, Om, Ganesh, and Buddha.

I also have a tube of Traditional Mandala in a bamboo tube I’d like to rehome for fans of this incense. It is also missing only one stick.

These are free. The Mother’s Nag Champa will come together unless requested otherwise. Simply email me at tc49pz@yahoo.com if interested.

The wiki is still alive, yes. If you tried signing up before and didn’t receive a response, it’s probably because I didn’t get a notification about you applying. I’ve approved the backlog and fixed the notification issue, so all should be good!

BTW, for new members, it really does help to change the default request message to something other than “Please add me to the wiki.” I aim to keep spammers out.

Is the incense trading wiki still alive?

I’m wondering, too, if it’s still alive or if we can resurrect it…

Is the trading still active? If so, I would very much like to be a part of it if permitted. I am from Canada, have been purchasing more and more new varieties to try as I delve deeper into the world of incense and, as a result, am starting to accumulate a stash of “unwanted’s”.

    • Mike said,

Hi Christina. I thought I had updated the trading page for the status a long time ago, but the page is more or less dead at this point, the last person with the box gave it all to a friend unfortunately. I am starting to clean up and downsize my own incenses; however, I don’t really have much left that I’d just give away, so instead I will be offering boxes of various things for one sale price periodically as I go through them. So if that’s of interest I’d subscribe to the feed if you haven’t or just keep an eye on it. I should have one box up soon.

      • Christina said,

        January 24, 2015 at 8:09 pm

Thanks for replying, Mike! I’ll definately check out what you have for sale as you offer it. Would you consider shipping to Canada if I purchased a box from you?

In the meantime, I’ll find homes for the discards that are accumulating in my own collection.

        • Mike said,

          January 25, 2015 at 8:16 pm

Yes Christina, and I’ll try to make clearer what the postage costs will be internationally on the next box.

That would be terrific, Mike! I will watch for the next box.

It would be interesting to sample some things before plunking down cash. I just sold a lot of these on ebay at a loss, most incense is highly subjective without actually having it to test out.

I’ve noticed some people here have some boxes of the Dhoop Factory Incenses they’re not very happy with and if you are not going to be burning them and are thinking about tossing ’em in the trash I’d be happy to take them off your hands and I will pay the shipping if it can be COD.

I also have a box of some Indian, Nepal and Tibetan incenses I’m willing to give away and will pay the shipping for those also. I’d rather pay the shipping and give them to someone that might like them than just give them to someone I know that will probably throw them away sooner or later.

If anyone’s interested just let me know It just seems a waste to have these incenses that I know I’m not going to burn but only to collect dust.

Here’s the trade list as of October 5th 2012.

Please correct me if I’m wrong. I believe Mark (November 12, 2011 at 12:50 pm) then Ted (March 11, 2012 at 11:08 pm) are the next two people in line to receive a box.
Mike and Sharon, I thought it was Carrie who was next but I see Carrie already has had the box, it can get a tad confusing here 🙂

Attention Mark, Sharon has a box she can pass on to you, please supply your email address to Mike so he can pass it on to Sharon who will then contact you to make arrangements.

Attention Ted, please email to Mike now, so he will have your email address to pass it on to whoever next has a box ready for dispatch.

I’ll be receiving a box courtesy of Mike. I’ll post back to here when I’m finished with that box.

Note: Mike is the email genie putting each of us into contact with the other.
Post your desire to be added to the Incense Trading List as a new comment.
Next send a short email to Mike so he will have your email address on record and when the time comes Mike will be able to forward it to the next person.

For Mike’s email address please visit the blogs “About” page then check last paragraph.

Sorry everyone, really behind at the moment, but I just want to add that Glenn has nicely cleared up where everything is in the Trading scheme. I have Ted’s e-mail. Glenn will let you know as soon as I get to the PO next. Please respond as soon as you can so we can move this forward.

Since it’s been several months since I’ve had the box to send on, and no one seems to want it, I offered it to some one I know. She loves incense, and was extremely happy to get it.

I’ve finished with the box I got and am ready to send it on to the next person. If Mike could contact the next person and have them send me their address I’ll get it out to them. My email addy is sharonsgl@fastmail.fm

You should know I’ve added some Japanese incense to the box. it’s nothing to exciting, mostly Nippon Kodo Morning Star, and a few other things.

Hi Sharon, Apologies if I’m mistaken but I think I’m next to receive the box. I’ll email to your the fm address and discuss with you how we might proceed.

I posted a request on craigslist for us incense afficiandos to swap incense. I’ve heard nothing back. The same with the incense trading wiki. One for was accepted, the other form had problems I was never able to submit. I’d like to get into the trading.I would also like to get into bulk buying. This would enable me tostop paying $1 for an incense sample, and pay the actual 18 cents a stick

Any help, Please Let Me Know!

Hey Ted, I often wonder if the incense community really has the manpower to make incense trading circles go. I’ve got a pretty big box of discards ready to go out at some point, but I’ve kind of lost track of where the old box is here…

I have that box, Mike. I can send it out anytime, just give
        me an address.

Hi Carrie, I think you have the second box. Kate had the first box and well we haven’t heard from her in a while. So Sharon was next in line, so Sharon, if you’re still reading this can you contact Carrie so she can send it to you? Thanks.

Oh the other thing is I just sent Glenn a package. Based on the weight of it, my guess is it would cost a pretty penny to send a huge trading box to Australia, so whoever might be sending it to Glenn next might want to discuss the costs. I have a third box and it’s pretty much a tank at this point, just like the second was. – Mike

It’s boxed and labeled and ready to ship out parcel post on Monday.

I didn’t keep anything, but I added a few handfuls of stuff!

OK here’s the deal, anyone who was previously on the trading wait list has until this Sunday to confirm they’re on it. At that point I’ll take a tally on Monday and see who’s left and we can find Kate someone to send the box to. If noone replies, she can send it to Carrie.

      • Mike said,

OK we’ve had three hands since I asked for a recount, which makes the list:

        Sharon
        Glenn
        Carrie

Sharon, please contact Kate at hayes@hotmail.com to get her your address. Glenn, given how much it will cost to mail a box of this size to Australia (it was pretty huge even when I sent it), you may want to arrange with Sharon on postal costs when she’s ready to move the box on. Anyone else who’s missing from the list let me know as soon as possible. At some point it’s likely I’ll have a second box ready to go, been doing a lot of reorganizing.

          January 31, 2012 at 7:04 pm

Update? Kate, would you be able to ask Sharon if she’s able to post an update please. You have hotmail from me sent Jan 1st 2012. cheers

          • Sharon said,

            February 1, 2012 at 9:09 am

I emailed Kate twice at her Hotmail address and never received a reply, or a box of incense.

It’s true I only noticed the note to contact Kate late and emailed her several months after the original posting. But that’s why I sent a follow up email, encase the original email got overlooked.

            • Mike said,

              February 1, 2012 at 11:01 am

Hopefully Kate will chime in and let us know where we’re at, but don’t worry if we don’t hear from her I have another box almost ready to go.

Hi, can you please re-send the address of the next person on the list? I’m very sorry that it has taken me so long to sort through it — there’s a lot of stuff in there! -Kate You can email me at hayes@hotmail.com

    • Mike said,

      June 21, 2011 at 11:25 am

Kate thanks for checking in. I believe Kevin is next on the list, so Kevin please speak up if you’re reading this so we can make the transition. I should also note that it probably won’t be long until I have enough for a second box, so all traders please keep what you like no matter how much is in there.
